Ok Ill start with last wednesday 21st March!!
Event 1: Had a busy day with lectures and then stayed up talking for ages! Only to get to bed for an hour and the fire alarm to go off!! Now bearing in mind we live in halls and its 4.30 in the morning, tipping it down with rain they decide to do a fire practice!! Not only that but they make us get into lines and count!! yes count!
I went out there with my slippers and duvet wrapped around me, as you may have guessed my duvet was pretty wet by the time we got back inside! So we were stood outside in the middle of the night and security is asking us to count. Now my boyfriend Lee being the guy he is when he is tired wasn't best impressed like the rest of us really.
Security "now say one."
Lee mumbles "one"
Security "I cant hear you"
Lee louder "one......we learnt to count when we were five not five at in the morning!"
As you can probably believe we were all quite glad to get back inside into are warm beds. Only for all of the other halls to have a fire practice to!
The fire point when there is an alarm is right next to our halls so we were all kept awake by that noisey lot for the next hour!
Event two: Drama of the night all over. In the morning I go downstairs to find someone has set the toaster on fire and you can't see in the kitchen for smoke! I tell you university is a dangerous place your application should come with a safety warning and a common sense test just to determine that you can look after yourself!! Anyway Chris the clever boy that he is tried to blow out the fire yes with the air from his lungs!!! Thank goodness someone had the sense to unplug the toaster!
You will never guess what chris did once the fire had just gone out.... nope no guesses?!!
He tried to pick the toaster up with his bare hands...considering it had just been on fire and the sides of the toaster had melted completely!! It's not surprizing that he burnt his hands really!
Event three: We reached Friday at long last it has been a pretty trying week so far has the drama finished?!! No far from it, what was to come next was just a brilliant way to end this lovely week!
John flooded his room! Yes proper flooded, so much so it was dripping through the ceiling into Mikes room below him. There where puddles on the floor for ages. We all have sinks in are rooms in halls which is quite convienient for brushing teeth and so on, so we recon John left his tape running and the sink got blocked, like they often do in the cheapest halls at uni! But that is just one of those things. Anyway security were called, as it was about 12.30 at night. Now security are a clever bunch of people you would think, especially after proving that they can count from 1 - 50 at 4.30 in the morning! They get to Johns room and decide that they can fix Johns sink (of course they must be plumbers in their free time...every security Guard is........aren't they?!!) They spend the first 5 minutes arguing about whether a bolt on the sink is plastic of mental!! Honestly should we consider ourselves save here at uni if security can't tell the difference between plastic and metal?!! I do wonder sometimes. Well newspaper was put down to soak up the water and a plumber was called first thing the next day thank goodness!
Event four: Another fire, yes another one and this time it was our lovely blond hall warden. One of my best friends here at uni but if they gave her a job as hall warden surely we should be safe living in halls with her?! Thats what I thought. Me and her were sat in her room watching a few clips on youtube (like we do alot here at uni) after she had just come back from the kitchen. I then walk to the kitchen with her to get my food out of the oven, to guys from the floor above us are in our kitchen!! There is smoke everywhere and two black things sat on the grill!! Apparently the two lads had been sat in their kitchen upstairs and seen the smoke rising from our kitchen window, only too come downstairs and find the grill on fire where Jen had left her waffles under the grill and gone back to her room!!
Nevermind I'm sure you will all be glad to here that noone has yet to be hurt in any of the above events....
However, we have since had a letter under ours doors to say that too many people stayed in their rooms during the fire practice! The question I have been asking is how do they know?! They didn't bother to check any of the rooms when the fire alarm was occruing and tow my knowledge only two guys stayed in their rooms in our halls of 30 (they were both very drunk, lazy and insisted the fire wouldnt come and find them!!) 19 of us left are rooms and the rest were away!! It's just not fair, I think they need to check how this system works and try evacuating Chandler halls (my hall) last then we won't be kept awake by the other halls being evacuated!
P.S. Event five: I have since found out that my friend Mave set his bed sheets on fire last week!
I'm sure you are all wondering why because I certainly was, the answer to his question....
I don't know!
Yes Mave of course because every person gets the urge to set their bed sheets alight!!!!!!!
He has since told me that it was some sort of spiritual thing but he still down't know why he did it!
I do wonder whether I'm actually at university most days or that my Parents have secretly conned me into thinking I was going to Uni when they were actually sending me away to a mental place!!
